About PrairieStone

PrairieStone AppWorks is named for the stones of the Canadian prairies — quiet, durable, and easy to overlook until you need one to find your way. We chose the name because it says something about how we think software should work: built to last, placed with intention, and useful to the people who actually depend on it. The name comes from two things we didn't want to let go of: the prairie landscape this company calls home, and the quiet discipline of a cairn — stones stacked one at a time, each placed with intention, built to guide whoever comes after. That's the standard we hold every app to.

The studio started when we kept running into the same problem: useful apps abandoned mid-stride, or buried under features nobody asked for. We wanted to build the opposite — focused tools that do one thing well and keep doing it. PrairieStone AppWorks started small and stayed that way on purpose. Rather than chase every idea at once, we build one app at a time, see it through properly, and only then move to the next. It's a slower way to grow a company — we think it's the right one.

Today we're a small team shipping apps for Android first, with an eye toward iOS. We build slowly, on purpose, and we stand behind everything we release. Every app we release adds another stone to the stack. We're not in a hurry to build everything at once — we'd rather build a handful of things well, and let the studio grow the same deliberate way the apps themselves are made.
