This Receipt Disclaimer applies to receipts created using SquareDeal (the “App”), provided by PrairieStone AppWorks.
It should be read together with the SquareDeal Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, which govern your use of the App generally. Where this Disclaimer and the Terms of Service address the same subject, both apply; if they conflict, this Disclaimer governs matters specific to SquareDeal receipts.
1. SquareDeal is a tool, not a party to your transaction
SquareDeal helps you create a record of a private sale between two people.
PrairieStone AppWorks is not a party to that sale, does not broker, facilitate, guarantee, or insure it, and has no involvement in the item sold, its condition, or the funds exchanged. Any dispute about the sale itself is between the parties to it.
2. A SquareDeal receipt is not an official government document
A receipt created with SquareDeal records a transaction as its users described it.
It is not a government-issued title, registration document, certificate of ownership, or other official government form. SquareDeal does not determine or guarantee whether ownership has legally transferred.
Some types of property or transactions may require separate government forms, registrations, permits, filings, disclosures, inspections, or other steps. A SquareDeal receipt does not replace any such requirement.
You are responsible for determining what documentation or other legal requirements apply to your transaction.
3. Signatures in SquareDeal are not notarized or certified
A signature captured in SquareDeal is a drawn image made on a touchscreen with a finger or stylus within the App. It is:
- not notarized by a notary public;
- not witnessed by any third party through the App;
- not checked against government identification; and
- not digitally certified through any signing authority, certificate, or identity-verification service.
A signature captured this way is intended to record that a person indicated agreement to the receipt at a particular time, timestamped by the App. SquareDeal does not verify the identity of the person who provided it.
If your transaction requires a notarized, witnessed, verified, or certified signature, SquareDeal does not provide one and you must arrange that separately.
4. SquareDeal does not verify what you enter
Everything on a receipt — including names, contact information, item description, condition, price, payment method, identifying information, and date — is entered by the person creating it.
SquareDeal does not verify:
- that the seller owns the item or has the right to sell it;
- that the description or condition of the item is accurate;
- that any serial or identifying number is correct or matches the item;
- the identity of any person named on the receipt; or
- that any payment was made or received.
5. A SquareDeal receipt does not independently prove payment
A receipt reflects the payment information entered by its creator.
SquareDeal does not process, confirm, verify, or guarantee that any payment was made, received, cleared, refunded, or otherwise completed.
A receipt marked as a Gift similarly reflects information entered by the user and is not independently verified by SquareDeal.
6. Not legal or tax advice
Nothing in SquareDeal — including its fields, prompts, labels, or the receipts it creates — is legal, tax, accounting, appraisal, or other professional advice.
Requirements for private sales, including what must be disclosed, what documentation is needed, and how a sale or Gift is treated, vary by jurisdiction, item type, and circumstances and may change.
If you have questions about a specific transaction, consult an appropriate government authority or qualified professional rather than relying on SquareDeal or this Disclaimer.
7. Your responsibility
By creating a receipt with SquareDeal, you agree that:
- you are responsible for the accuracy of everything you enter;
- you are responsible for determining what your transaction requires under applicable law;
- you will not rely on a SquareDeal receipt as a substitute for an official, notarized, witnessed, or other document where one is legally required;
- you have appropriate authority to enter another person’s information into the App; and
- you will not provide or reproduce another person’s signature without lawful authority.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to the Limitation of Liability and Indemnification provisions of the SquareDeal Terms of Service, PrairieStone AppWorks is not liable for any loss, dispute, financial harm, or legal consequence arising from your reliance on a receipt created with SquareDeal, including disputes concerning an item’s condition or ownership, whether payment occurred, information entered by a user, or the validity of a signature captured in the App.
